Bar Examination Success

Mississippi College School of Law graduates who took the July 2007 Mississippi bar examination continued the Law School's success on bar examinations. The bar passage rate for MCSOL students who took the bar examination for the first time was 89.1% which exceeded the overall bar passage rate of 86.8% for all who took the Mississippi bar examination for the first time.

Dean Jim Rosenblatt was pleased with the results and attributes the success of Mississippi College School of Law students to two factors. "First, our law professors invest in student learning. They are always willing to go the extra mile to ensure students' questions are answered and legal concepts understood. They love to teach and it is reflected in student learning. Second, our law students work hard. The sacrifices they make of their time and energy during law school and in preparing for the bar examination pay off in their success on this important examination. Our students know that their ability to practice law is grounded on their success on this difficult gateway test."

The MCSOL curriculum is also helpful noted Phillip McIntosh, Associate Dean for Academics. “While we offer a broad range of courses, seminars, and skill training opportunities, our first year curriculum provides the foundation on which academic success is based. A law student who masters the concepts and principles of these first year courses is prepared to take any of the specialty courses in the upper level curriculum, as well as to continue to develop mastery in subjects with which attorneys generally should be proficient.”

The law school is committed to the success of its students in academics that reaches beyond the classroom itself. Under the leadership of John Brown, Assistant Dean for Student Services, the law school provides additional resources to assist students in continuing to develop and hone study skills and techniques necessary for success in law school and in the practice of law.
